“Everyone has the right to freedom of thought, conscience and religion.”
- Article 18 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights
The Slavic Centre for Law and Justice (SCLJ) is a non-governmental, non-profit organization with the principal goal of protecting religious rights and freedoms of individuals and associations in Russia.
We firmly believe that freedom of conscience is an inalienable right of every person and needs to be ensured in accordance with principles of justice and the rule of law. The SCLJ bases its actions on the constitutional principle of equality of all before the law.
The SCLJ engages in litigation, provides legal services, renders advice and counsel to clients, and supports attorneys and organizations that are involved in defending religious freedom and human rights.
We provide legal services to protect religious freedom free of charge.
The SCLJ defends:
individuals and associations with respect to the protection and defense of religious freedom and constitutional guarantees;
victims of religious discrimination or persecution from public authorities;
missionaries and charity workers whose right to propagate their religion is unlawfully restricted;
conscientious objectors whose religious convictions prevent them from taking arms.
